Singular value decomposition in dynamic epidemiology: arboviral diseases with human circulation

We introduce a matrix that combines information about human circulation and the epidemiological situation at the nodes of a metapopulational model for an arboviral disease. Its singular value decomposition allows relationships between three basic reproduction numbers ${ℛ}_0$: local(s), uniform, and network. The onset of an arboviral disease is strongly dependent on the network characteristics. We present a naive "early warning" criterion for the outbreak at a given node, aiming to promote a discussion on the role of left and right singular vectors.
